Valentine's Day has traditionally been about the giving of love tokens, usually by a man to a woman. However, it also a time when a woman can give a love token to a man. These days, that love token can be far more than a token gesture. As women have become more and more the "givers" rather than just receivers, some tokens are now substantial gifts.

If you want to give something to your husband or boyfriend on February 14, then it is likely you will give a lot of thought in choosing a Valentine gift for him. For a moment, think not so much about the main gift you will give him, gift wrapped in a box, but how you are going to make his Valentine's Day a special one. With any luck, he will be going to great lengths to organize flower delivery, a romantic candlelit dinner, and a most wonderful gift of that scintillating outfit you discreetly pointed out to him in a boutique the week before. Plus some gorgeous perfume which he knows you will adore and that he will find irresistible. But what part can you play? Here are some simple ideas to help him have a great day too:

1. If you live with him, make absolutely sure you wake up first. Caress him slowly until you think he is aware but still asleep, or pretending to be. Wake him with a long passionate kiss; just like sleeping beauty.

2. After his shower, tell him to lie down, and give him his gift wrapped massage oil. Make sure it is not an oil thet will send him back to sleep. When he has opened it, take it from his hand, and use the oil for a relaxing massage. Make sure the alarm clock is off, and you are certain he will not kill you if he is late for work.

So, you have started his day off in a dream like way. You can add other surprises during the day and evening, but now it is time to wait and see what he has done to make your day special.

So, you have thought out and planned how to make your boyfriend's or husband's day very special; but what do you actually buy him for his Valentine gift or gifts? Much will depend on what he really likes; after all, there's no point in buying him something he does not like. That would leave him thinking: "Mmmm, she's got no idea about me." It's probably better to forget the gift altogether.

However long you've known him, you are sure to have at least some idea of his likes and dislikes, his loves and hates, and his interests and hobbies. Spend a little while going through what you know about his likes, list them, and then try to match gifts to each one listed.

For example he may think of himself as a coffee connoisseur. If so, you can consider buying a gift wrapped pack of the best coffee you can find, or you could even buy a coffee inspired gift basket. If you really want to spoil him, what about splashing out on the latest and the greatest coffee making machine. Not one of those giant machines that you might see in a public waiting room; you know, the type that spews out luke warm dishwater. No, a coffee brewer for the home that turns out real coffee, the smell of which will have him drooling for the first sip. Choose one that grinds the beans for him too, and supply a pack of top quality coffee beans to go with it.

On the other hand, he may be crazy about movies and the movie industry. There are lots of gifts that show you appreciate his passion for the film industry, and can show your passion for him, just as he is. If you spend a bit of time searching for movie memorabilia, you are sure to find a few things that will delight him no end. Couple that with a gift certificate for a local theater complex and he will be all set to take you to the movies for some time to come. Another thing you can do is to seek out some of his favorite movies that have recently been updated to DVD, and buy those for him.
